The dive sites of the day were called Barracuda and Turtle Reef. Although we didn't see any barracuda, we sure saw a lot of magnificent turtles, some small to some very large, casually grazing away on the bottom and not batting an eyelid no matter how close you got. But first we had to get to the dive sites and that was a mission in itself. With 6ft waves from peak to trough, the sea was rougher than a Balsall Heath prostitute. 6 out of the 10 passengers on the boat were sea-sick with the others coming close, and first up was Wolverand, literally within minutes of the boat setting off. He was like someone recovering from their worst hangover, every time he was aboard the boat he was sick, so the crew hurriedly threw him and his gear into the water! At least he made the dives! Then just before the second dive, Hero was sick and boy was there a bucketful. Having thought he was going to make it without puking, he looked down at the wrong moment as the boat rolled from side to side, and up it came in an instant. Boy was this a rough ride and to top it off, a storm kicked in on the way home. But none of this could take away the most fantastic diving we'd done. Drift diving in a current so strong you simply couldn't stop yourself bombing along effortlessly sideways at about 5mph (try walking that fast!), peacefully watching the amazing coral, fish and turtles. Drift diving, its the tops. |
